DRAGONS IN DUNGEONS

ARC 1

Our premier adventure is as D&D as D&D gets. A group of soon-to-be adventurers meet in a tavern and are delivered a quest by a nervous waitress – her fiancée is missing, and she needs them to bring her home safe. This classic D&D tale puts a fresh spin on the most common and beloved tropes of a game with limitless possibilities.

MEET THE PARTY

SIR MISTER PERSON

The simplest, most basic man you’ve ever seen in your life, Mister believes himself to be anything but. Though he spends his days as a guard on the docks of Summerview, Mister thinks he is an exalted knight of the Kingdom of Hyranor, thanks to a big miscommunication and an even bigger ego. Though he loves himself, he loves his kingdom and its people more, and will do anything to protect them.

HUMAN (he/him) – FIGHTER 3 (Samurai)

HOPE LOVEJOY

A naive noble with a mouth that runs for miles, Hope is as sweet as they come. The youngest of sixteen children, Hope’s long and lonely days at home were spent praying for the weather, and now that Pelor has gifted her with magic, she’s finally ready to see the world. Though she may not know the customs of commoners or the value of a gold coin, Hope’s earnest nature is undeniable and her kindness is infectious.

HIGH ELF (she/her) – CLERIC 3 (Life)

DEB

The most unassuming adventurers are the often the strongest, and Deb is no exception. An apprentice baker at the local Crumpton’s Confections, Deb’s muffins and scones possess the magic to inspire allies and weaken enemies. So don’t be fooled by their polite demeanor and basket of goodies, for magic can indeed come from where you least expect it.

TIEFLING (they/them) – BARD 3 (Lore)

THAVIUS

A Shadowfell native who’s only ever known a life of dreary monotony, Thavius has a lot to get used to on the Material Plane, such as the sun and having conversations. Though he’s here for a mission of his own – leading a righteous soul trapped in a coin to its rightful resting place – his curious nature and willingness to help all who need it makes him a perfect candidate for sidequest after sidequest.

SHADAR-KAI (he/him) – ROGUE 3 (Soulknife)

SK-73

He’s a old, creaking robot with a hunch and a crank in his back. He’s a librarian with a passion for cleanliness and organization. He’s a wizard who has never cast a single damage spell. Were it not for SK-73’s hunt to find a key to the back of the library, he couldn’t be bothered to tag along. But tag along he will, and he may even be useful along the way.

WARFORGED (he/him) – WIZARD 3 (Divination)

  • Our five soon-to-be adventurers gather in the Rose and Thorn Tavern in the small coastal town of Summerview. After making their introductions, Sir Mister is approached by barmaid Amara with a quest – her fiancée Aura left town a few days ago and hasn’t been seen since, leaving behind only a note saying she was going to the nearby town of Thymore.

    After some discussion, the five decide to all head to Thymore together, along with Hope’s horse Sugar. After stopping to rest for the night, Hope is struck by an arrow in a surprise attack! Not ideal.

  • Battle erupts on the side of the road as our party is ambushed by bandits! Hope commits murder, Deb throws scones, and SK-73 tries to stay out of the way. After combat settles, Thavius questions the surviving bandit, who reveals that there is a “living crypt” in Thymore. The party lets the last bandit free and continues down the road.

    Upon arriving in Thymore, they find a tiny, nearly deserted town with but a few buildings. A smug stranger greets them and counts down to echoing laughter coming from the town’s mausoleum.

  • Our party gets to know this stranger a little more – their name is Van and they really want to sell you some trinkets. Van also reveals that they saw a woman matching Aura’s description head into the mausoleum days before. Once Van starts morphing their body to match the features of our party, Mister gets freaked out and urges the party forward.

    Inside the mausoleum, the party encounters twelve tombs with various loot inside – Mister gets a new firey greatsword, and SK-73 gets some magic gambler’s coins. The last grave they open, enscribed Damir Mortyss, reveals a tunnel underground. The party descends and defeats a pair of hostile skeletons at the bottom.

  • Our party makes their way deep into the living crypt. To make it through a door with four keyholes, they have to get the better of four dastardly rooms. First, Thavius maneuvers around a gelatinous cube. Then, Mister is trapped in an room with illusory walls that close in upon him. Next, Mister and Deb fight and defeat shadowy versions of themselves. Finally, Thavius and Hope flip numbered levers to spell the word “KEY.”

    After a final password is solved, the door opens to reveal a cackling flameskull who makes a hasty retreat.

  • In the next room, our party is encountered with a stone door and a smattering of papers. While Mister and Thavius attempt to break down the door with brute force, the remainder of the party investigates.

    The papers tell a story of a necromancer, Damir Mortyss, who was revived after death and began to slowly lose his grasp on reality, eventually plotting to murder the royal line of succession and become king himself with the help of a … large saddle?

    After Hope finds the actual key to the door, the party finally finds themself face-to-skull with Mortyss himself.

  • Our party does battle with the flameskull Mortyss! A devastating fireball knocks Mister and Hope unconscious, but the party rallies and defeats the BBEG in spectacular fashion.

    In a back room, the party discovers a golden dragon guarding an egg. The dragon addresses SK-73 by name, and then transforms back into the human form of Aura. Aura explains that she came here for the egg so she could have a child with Amara, but didn’t leave out of fear of Mortyss harming the egg.

    The party returns to Summerview and Amara and Aura are reunited. Thavius continues his soul coin mission, Hope leaves to visit family, and the remaining party members return to their lives in Summerview.
